Volunteers needed for annual Halloween Carnival

Volunteer for this year's Folly Beach Halloween Carnival!
Now in its 34th year, the Folly Beach Civic Club’s annual Halloween Carnival is a wonderfully fun time for children and it is absolutely free. In 1975, the Carnival was held in the Community Center. However, as the community has grown over the years, the Carnival has outgrown that location.
“With our increase in full time families and the lack of sidewalks and street lights for traditional door-to-door Trick-or-Treating, the Carnival creates fun and happy Halloween childhood memories in a safe and controlled environment; the Folly River Park,” says Kathy Nicklaus, one of the event coordinators.
The costumes are always a great sight among children and adults alike. Every child will receive a pre-filled trick-or-treat bag when they enter the carnival. Games will include “Shoot the Pumpkins” (water pistols), the “Fish Pond”, a “Bean Bag Toss” and “Ring Toss”. Of course, what Halloween Carnival would be complete without the option to bob for apples or enter a “haunted graveyard”. You can also guess the weight of the giant pumpkin and the number of candies in a jar. A costume contest will be held at 7:30pm with three different age categories that range from infants to 12 years old. Categories include: funniest, scariest, most original, and best. The Folly Beach Anglers Club will be offering hot dogs, drinks, and roasted marshmallows while the Our Lady of Good Counsel’s Women’s Guild will be serving up some delicious hot chocolate.
“We do rely on volunteers and we know how hard it is to ask for volunteers. Everyone is busy and doesn’t have a lot of free time,” Nicklaus says. “But Halloween is one of those times that we should all work together to create those wonderful, happy childhood memories and grow our sense of community.”
Baked goods of any kind are needed for “Marlene’s Famous Cake Walk”, and individual volunteers are needed for the Carnival itself. If you would like to volunteer or make a donation, contact Kathy Nicklaus at 588-9341. You can also donate a baked good, homemade or store-bought, by bringing it to the Carnival on October 31 after 5pm.
The Civic Club’s annual Halloween Carnival will take place on October 31 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Folly River Park.
