Folly Beach Police Reports
September 25: A good Samaritan witnessed a man punching and slapping a woman in a car as they were backing out of a parking space at a Folly Beach restaurant. She followed the car until it stopped at the traffic light at the Piggly Wiggly, at which point the witness motioned for the victim to get into her car. She complied and the two drove away and called the police. The victim stated that she and the male driver had gotten into an argument and the he started punching and slapping her in the face. Both sides of her face were swollen. She admitted that she had bitten him in self defense. The suspect was located down the road by Charleston County Deputies and he was arrested for criminal domestic violence.
September 26: A man threatened to stab a Piggly Wiggly manager for cooking barbecue on the sidewalk in front of the store and that he wasn’t supposed to be doing so. The manager said the subject tried to hit him and also stole a bottle of water. The man was arrested for petit larceny and simple assault.
September 27: A church service was disrupted by a man who became very disorderly. When police arrived he was on the front steps smoking a cigarette and yelling at several church officials who seemed frightened. The subject was recognized by one officer from previous incidents and believed him to be mentally unstable. He yelled at officers, jumped up and aggressively went towards one. He was then placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.
September 29: An officer responded to the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in response to a witness stating that a man in a truck hit a parked car and appeared to be drunk. The driver was backing out of a parking space when the officer arrived. He appeared to be intoxicated as he had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol, and had trouble standing. When asked to take the eye test, he stated that his eye normally jerked around. He also stated that he would be unable to complete the one-legged stand test. He was arrested for drunk driving and blew a .22 blood/alcohol level at the detention center which resulted in the suspension of his license.
September 29: A woman called police to report an intoxicated woman who was acting in a threatening manner towards the complainant and was currently walking towards the beachfront. She was located under a tree with two males drinking alcohol and had obviously urinated herself. She smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and gave police several different names for herself. She said she was staying with a friend but when police took her to the supposed residence, the occupant stated he did not know the woman. She was arrested for public intoxication and giving false information to police, then taken to the detention center where she was positively identified.
October 2: A man was revived by first responders after apparently overdosing on heroin. Located near his body was a syringe filled with a brown liquid and blood, and a spoon. He was transported to the hospital and cited for drug paraphernalia.
October 3: While on a boat ride, a man’s utility trailer was stolen. The trailer was valued at $1000 and he said that the hitch had been locked.
October 3: A man arrived at the Public Safety Office to retrieve his dog which was being kept in a kennel because it had been found “at large” without identification. The man had apparently been drinking and using profane language with officers, refusing to pay the ticket. He was told to go home in order to get a leash and collar, as well as a City issued dog license. He returned and retrieved the dog and the officer noticed the man being angry toward the dog. A short time later, a resident reported that the man was hitting his dog and had kicked it in the ribs several times. An officer responded and witnessed the man grab the dog by the neck and “smack its head into the asphalt road” while screaming at the top of his lungs “you f*%@ing b*%$h. You cost me $500 you mother f*$@ing b*%$h”. The man was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and animal cruelty.
