UPDATE: Search called off for F-16 pilot

The search for Captain Nicholas Giglio was called off on Saturday night after hundreds of participants scoured about 4,000 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean.
Giglio was piloting an F-16 at night on October 15 when his plane struck another F-16. Captain Lee Bryant was piloting the other aircraft and was able to land the plane safely at Charleston Air Force Base. It is believed that Giglio died instantly.
The lack of a beacon signal, which is usually activated automatically when a pilot evacuates a plane, made the search especially difficult and suggests Giglio may not have made it out of the craft. However, search parties discovered some debris and an oil slick later and encouraged the search to include an additional 1300 square feet.
The Folly current would like to extend its best wishes and prayers to the family and friends of Captain Giglio.
