Crews from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) continue working around the clock and using all available resources in response to the winter weather event.

Although snowfall has stopped in all areas of the state, there is an accumulation of snow, ice and slush on most roadways and crews are plowing and treating with all available resources. Travel is very hazardous and not recommended. Most interstates appear to be clear and/or passable. All available resources are being deployed in an effort to keep up with the accumulation.

SCDOT on Friday activated its online site for winter weather road conditions. Go to www.scdot.org and click on Winter Road Conditions. This page is activated at times when snow and ice conditions affect South Carolina highways. The reports are updated around the clock by SCDOT personnel in each district several times a day as conditions warrant.

As of 8am, Saturday, SCDOT has deployed the following:

  • 1,419 Maintenance employees actively involved in road operations
  • 8,238 Tons of Salt (cumulative total)
  • 1,632 Tons of Sand (cumulative total)
  • 582,396 Gallons of Salt Brine and CaCl used (cumulative total)
  • 737 Equipment In-Use (snow plows, salt spreaders, sprayers and graders)

Along the SC Coastal regions and Pee Dee, all counties with accumulation are pushing snow and sanding/salting roads and bridges as needed. Jasper, Colleton, and Berkley report significant amounts of downed trees.
