Hosted by The Folly Beach Anglers, the 2nd Annual Take a Kid Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, June 5, at the Folly Beach Pier from 7:30 a.m – 2:30 p.m.
“Last year we had 53 kids even though it rained that morning,” said Daniel Culpepper, vice president of The Folly Beach Anglers. “This year we are looking to double that number and show kids how easy it is to have a good time fishing in the ocean, even if you don’t have a boat.”
The event is free for all kids aged 16 and under, and a tournament will be held with a first place prize for each of the following categories: girls 12 and under, girls 12 – 16, boys 12 and under, and boys 12 – 16.
All fish entered in the tournament must be caught on the pier during tournament hours, must have scales (that is, no sharks or sting rays may be entered) and must be a legal fish according to South Carolina Department of Natural Resources rules.
A $50 prize will be awarded to the biggest catch of the day, and 50 t-shirts will be given away during the tournament. 50 hats will be given to the first 50 kids to arrive, and more prizes will be given away at the end of the tournament.

Bait, hooks, weights, free advice and help will be provided, and some gently used rods and reels will also be available. No pre-registration is required: just show up if you’d like to fish!
