It’s a one-way street, dummie
At about 4:30 p.m. on February 1, a vehicle was stopped for driving the wrong way on W. Arctic Avenue. During a records check it was determined that the subject’s license had been suspended for a drug law conviction. The subject was placed under arrest and booked into the Charleston County jail. The vehicle was released to the passenger in the car at the subject’s request.
He wanted another drink really bad
A grossly intoxicated white male was cursing and banging on the closed doors of bars in the area of Center and Arctic Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on February 7. Officers responding to the commotion told the subject that all the businesses were closed at this hour of the morning. He was swaying on his feet and slurring his words, and commenced to direct his profanity at the officers. When his South Carolina I.D. card was run, officers received a hit on a shoplifting charge and the Monck’s Corner Police Department requested a hold for pick up. While he was being handcuffed, the subject became more belligerent and made several attempts to put his face in the officer’s face. After being told several times to step back and calm down, he became defiant and it took both officers to hold him against the police vehicle while he was searched for contraband. Another officer arrived to assist and it took them several minutes to get the subject into the patrol car. Once at the jail, the subject became violent and threatened the officers. The TAC team at the jail was finally able to subdue him and the subject was charged with disorderly contact and booked into a cell.
Ten blocks is a long walk
At about 10:00 p.m. on February 15, Folly Beach Public Safety received a call from a man requesting that officers meet him at the 10th Street East beach access because he had been assaulted by his roommate. Upon arrival, officers observed that the victim was bleeding from his right eye, which was very swollen. The subject said he had been drinking at Blu with his roommate and the roommate’s daughter when he was left at the Holiday Inn and had to walk ten blocks back to his residence. When he got home, the victim told the subject that his daughter was going to spend the night. The two men began arguing outside the residence and a neighbor said he would call the police if they kept it up. The subject said he thought the victim was going to swing on him, so he punched him in the face. The subject said he was mad because he was left at the bar and had to walk home and afraid the victim’s daughter would steal from him, as he claimed she had done in the past. The subject was issued a citation for simple assault, the residence was secured, and the victim was transported by EMS to MUSC for treatment of his wounds.
Abcdef –r?
Officers driving southbound on Folly Road at about 9:00 p.m. on February 17 clocked a car going 50 in a 35mph zone. When they turned around to pursue the vehicle, it sped up to 60mph. The officer turned on his siren and blue lights as the vehicle continued on without braking, eventually stopping halfway in the lane of traffic several hundred feet further on. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer could smell alcoholic beverages emanating from the driver, who had difficulty locating her license and registration. When asked to step to the rear of the car and say her ABCs, the subject sang and got the letters wrong after R, but continued to sing. When administered the finger to nose test, the subject used her whole hand and almost missed her nose. During the entire encounter, the subject had trouble following directions and listening to the officer. She was arrested, taken to jail, read her rights and administered a BAC, on which she blew a .25.
Maybe she couldn’t remember where she lived
A white female was reported falling down drunk in the road on E. Cooper at about 6:30 p.m. on February 21. The responding officer observed the subject in a state of gross alcohol intoxication unable to demonstrate due care for herself or others. She was offered a ride to her residence in downtown Charleston, but refused the offer several times. Without a safe place for her to go, she was placed under arrest for public drunkenness and booked into the Charleston County jail.
