More than 20 end up in water, no major injuries

Folly Beach’s extended community took another hit last week, as a 20-foot section of a pier outside Crosby’s Fish & Shrimp collapsed, sending nearly two dozen diners into tidal waters swollen recently by “king tides.”
Local fishermen sprang to help until local emergency personnel arrived.
According to a spokesperson for Crosby’s, all the fallen patrons were rushed to a local hospital, with two notable injuries, one being a man breaking his leg. The spokesperson also reported that all of the diners were able to return to their respective home states as planned.
The seafood shop was reopened the next day, but the restaurant remained closed. “So much is going on over here right now,” said one employee answering the restaurant phone the day after the incident.
The spokesperson said the commercial dock that collapsed had been inspected regularly, but would not speculate about the cause of the collapse. Local officials have opined that the cause might be the higher tides.
The spokesperson added that insurance adjusters would be inspecting the dock soon.
City of Folly administrator Spencer Wetmore extended the community’s collective concern to Crosby’s, already hit by the cancellation of oyster season after Hurricane Joaquin’s arrival.
