Wednesday, Dec. 2 | Ahhh, Honesty…
The Responding Officer (R/O) and his partner were dispatched to an East Arctic residence around 7 a.m. in reference to a suspicious vehicle with a Florida tag being parked in the home’s driveway. Both officers approached the vehicle on foot and made contact with the occupants. The officers immediately smelled marijuana. The R/O asked who had been smoking marijuana in the car. Both the 28-year-old male subject and the 23-year-old female subject denied smoking anything or having anything illegal in their possession. Then one of the officers spotted a glass pipe on the floorboard. The subjects were removed from the vehicle and detained for further investigation. The male’s driver’s license listed him as a Summerville resident, the female’s – Goose Creek. The female also had a warrant out for her arrest by the City of Goose Creek for a traffic ticket.
During the search of the car, the officers found small amounts of suspected marijuana throughout. Both subjects were cited for Possession of Marijuana, and the female was cited for Possession of Drug Paraphenalia. The R/O contacted GCPD and arranged for the female subject to be turned over to them. On the way to meet them, the female said to the officer, “I want to be honest with you,” and said she had something else on her. The officer undid one handcuff and allowed the subject to retrieve a wadded up dollar bill from her bra. Inside the bill was a small baggie containing white powder, which the officer believed was cocaine. The subject said the package was not hers and that she was hiding it for the male subject. She said the man handed it to her and asked her to hide it, which she did without knowing what was in it. She was handed an additional charge of Possession of Cocaine.
Thursday, Dec. 3| “Hello, IRS!”
A 64-year-old female Folly resident called the police station around 9 a.m. to report suspicious activity. She told the R/O she believed she was the target of a telephone scam. She said she had received a voicemail message from a man claiming she and her husband were under investigation by the IRS for tax evasion. The caller had left a number for her to call back. The woman did not call back, instead she called the police to investigate. An officer called the number unsuccessfully twice, but on the third try, a man picked up and said, “hello, IRS.” When the R/O identified himself as a police officer, the person immediately hung up the phone. The R/O notes, “this is indeed a scam and from my experience, the IRS does not answer the phone ‘Hello, IRS,’ then hang up.” The woman thanked the officers for their help.

The witness said he observed the subject “put his self back in his pants.” The employee approached the man and asked him to leave, to which the subject replied, “you’ll have to drag me out of here.” The complainant called for assistance and a verbal argument ensued. As the officers approached the visibly intoxicated subject who denied peeing, and continually cursed and yelled at the complainants, at one point attempting to bow up to and put his finger in the face of one of them.
