Fourth annual Folly Beach Porch Fest takes place Saturday, November 4
Special to The Current
Folly Beach Porch Fest 2017, featuring 17 local musical acts performing for free at private residences around Folly Beach, will take place Saturday, Nov. 4 from 1-6 p.m. Local watering hole Chico Feo will host the official after-party.
The original Porch Fest began in 2007 in Ithaca, NY. Since then, the idea has spread like wildfire, to more than 70 cities and towns throughout the U.S. and Canada. The concept is simple: musicians perform on private porches and yards, while music fans stroll from location to location, enjoying the free music, the company of their neighbors, and a festive atmosphere.
“We look forward to keeping the tradition alive that began in Ithaca, New York and finding all the hidden talent in our community and showcasing it,” says local singer-songwriter Eddy Boston, who founded Folly’s Porch Fest in 2014 and now manages it along with fellow local musician Teresa “Sweet T” Parrish.
“This year’s Porch Fest is the biggest one yet. says Boston. “It’s sure to be a success … the forecast looks absolutely beautiful for Saturday.”
This year’s Porch Fest spans six locations around the island — all within two blocks of Center Street.
“This year we are giving the community what they asked for … we have staggered the start times and added another stage so more music can be enjoyed without too much overlapping and possibly all acts can be viewed from porch to porch by visitors,” says Parrish.
