Dunes Properties will host the fourth annual Battle of the Bags from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Folly Beach County Park at the far west end of the island. The event is a fundraiser for the Folly Angels, a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the people of Folly Beach who are battling cancer.
According to Angel Ward, Dune’s Properties’ Closing Coordinator, the event is a way to give back to the community while also providing a fun-filled day for residents, visitors and children of all ages to enjoy … and of course to put a friendly face with their local real estate/vacation rental company.
The cost for a team to participate is $40 and goes up to $50 closer to the event. First prize is a four-night vacation rental (valued at $1,750) and second prize is $250 cash, both provided by Dunes Properties. “We typically max out at 42 teams for daylight purposes since the tournament is usually held after daylight savings,” says Ward.
During the tournament there is also a silent auction that is run by the Folly Angels. Some items from previous years included two-night stay on Dewee’s Island, two-night stay at The Lodge Alley Inn downtown, flight simulator experience, salon and massage packages, and more.
In addition to the tournament and auction, there will be a DJ , jump castle, and additional cornhole boards for kids and spectators as well as food trucks, a 50/50 raffle, and door prizes.
According to Ward, this year local businesses are also acting as sponsors for local teams to encourage local competition. She says so far Planet Follywood, Crab Shack, Washout, Loggerhead’s, as well as a few others have confirm. The event is fun but competitive with some of the best cornhole players in the area turning out for the event. “I haven’t seen any trash talking yet, but I expect it will get interesting, especially at the event,” says Ward.
