Time For some Cajun/Creole Food
This year’s Folly Gras is on February 23, and is hosted by the Folly Association of Business (FAB), the non-profit membership organization. It is most definitely a sight to see. Elaborate costumes, masks, and of course New Orleans-inspired food and drink will be lining the streets. Folly’s participating restaurants and bars will be serving up Cajun and Creole dishes from their establishments throughout the day, and live music along with the eclectic Parade is sure to be a hit. Enjoy $5 Deep Eddy cocktails all day, but remember to drink responsibly!
Jack of Cups New Menu Rollout
Many locals look forward to the seasonal change of the Jack of Cups menu every few months, and they certainly did not disappoint this time. They brought back a few favorites such as the Meatballs & Toast, the Boiled Peanut Hummus, and not one but two Noodle bowls to satisfy your cravings. There are also a few classic curries (Green Lentil & Chicken Masala) to warm up on these few cold nights that we have left of winter, along with two new soups (Rustic Root & Mushroom Veloute). Don’t forget, if you haven’t already popped around to the back courtyard for lunch or dinner on a nice day, make sure to put that on your list.
Bloody Mary Madness
On January 1st, Folly Beach dwellers joined in the 7th annual Bill Murray Look-A-Like Polar Bear Plunge to start the new year off. Although it was a beautiful sunny day, the cold waters had many divers scrambling for a way to warm up afterwards… and what better way than with a deliciously stout Bloody Mary? Sponsored by Deep Eddy vodka, local bartenders took a classic and ran with it by adding fun garnishes and creative ingredients to put their own spin on it. The competition was stiff, but here are the winners: Voter’s Choice: Rita’s Seaside Grille- flavorful homemade mix, garnished with tomatoes, pepperoncini, and pickles. Judges Choice: Pier 101 Restaurant & Bar- spicy chipotle seasoned mix blended with peppers and spices, topped with a skewer of shrimp, jalapeno, and cherry tomato. Honorable Mention: Taco Boy- Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and house-made salsa blend made this drink too good not to add to the list! Best Garnish: Planet Follywood- this Bloody Mary was served with a snack-pack that included a homemade maple ham biscuit, Slim Jim, pepperoncini, maple bacon, pickle, and olives. Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all the participants!
