The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network’s (LMMN) is a nonprofit focused on protecting marine mammals in South Carolina waters. LMMN’s mission is to raise awareness about marine mammals, educate the general public on federal regulations, and foster young stewards in ways to protect both marine mammals and their environment. Dolphin Week, which will be April 15-20, is one of LMMN’s largest annual fundraising events, and proceeds will go towards LMMN’s efforts to protect the Lowcountry’s marine mammals through science, awareness, and conservation.
LMMN’s 7th Annual Events are family-friendly and for all experience levels. Tickets are available now for all events including:
• Beach Yoga on Monday, April 15, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in front of Tides.
• Sunset Boat Ecotour with Barrier Islands Eco-Tours on Tuesday, April 16, 5:30-8 p.m. at Isle of Palms
• Sunset Kayak Tour on Friday, April 19, 6-8 p.m. at Coastal Expeditions on Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant
• Inaugural Golfin’ for Dolphins Charity Golf Tournament presented by RELiON on April 18, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Top Golf in North Charleston
Dolphin Week culminates with Dolphin Count on Saturday, April 20. During this FREE event, community members and volunteers will come together with marine mammal experts across multiple Lowcountry locations to help LMMN collect valuable dolphin data. These “community scientists” will learn about Charleston’s local dolphin population; how to raise awareness about ways our communities can view dolphins responsibly; and help encourage the development of our next generation of marine stewards.
“Charleston’s resident dolphins are a cherished part of our coastal heritage, but without ongoing conservation efforts, we risk losing this precious resource,” said Lauren Rust, Founder and Executive Director of the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network. “Dolphin Week programming provides an opportunity to unite as a community to learn and work together to protect these beloved marine mammals and their environment.”
