Several local businesses carved out a niche by bringing unique services right to your doorstep

Folly Beach, The Edge of America, has a refreshing number of convenient services that don’t require residents and visitors to leave the island. There’s a 24-hour grocery store, a hardware store and even a library (open sometimes) with a plethora of beach reads.
Folly Beach is also a vibrant place to experience unique, community-driven services at home. Acupuncture, beach yoga, personal chef experiences and even singing telegrams speak to the character and charm of Folly’s local culture that can be experienced without leaving home.
Acupuncture from Balanced Earth Acupuncture
Folly Beach resident Meredith Moore’s mobile acupuncture service is a refreshing take on holistic health by bringing wellness directly into people’s routines and social gatherings.
By bringing her treatments directly to clients’ homes, she provides a truly personalized and relaxing experience, complete with a massage table, spa music and essential oils to enhance the calm.
Her offerings cater to a variety of health needs, from pain relief and nervous system regulation to overall well-being, drawing on acupuncture’s rich history that reaches back to the year 100 B.C.
With her background in speech therapy, Moore’s approach is both compassionate and collaborative, involving an intake session to align treatment goals with patients.
“Ideal clients are people who are curious about health and the innate healing potential of the human body,” she said.
Her treatments utilize multiple modalities based upon the specific needs of clients: Tui Na (body work), Acupuncture (needles), Gua Sha (scraping), Cupping, Moxibustion, electrical stimulation, diet and lifestyle therapy.
Moore is also able to accommodate groups (up to 12 people) for 30-45-minute sessions in any comfortable chair with acupuncture points placed on the ear with specific functions for stress/anxiety/nervous system regulation/detox.
“Mobile group treatments are great for recovery after big nights out on Folly and calming the nervous system before a wedding or other big life events,” she said.

Beach Yoga with Serenity Tree Yoga
Serenity Tree Yoga offers personalized yoga sessions right at your doorstep, whether that’s at your residence, vacation rental or directly on the beach. Yoga sessions are tailored for individuals and private groups celebrating birthdays, weddings, bachelorette parties, reunions and more.
“Our instructors are experienced in guiding all levels, from beginners to seasoned yogis, and we’re skilled at accommodating multiple levels within a group. We can also bring mats or beach towels, depending on the location, to make your session as comfortable and convenient as possible,” said Melora Morgan, owner and instructor.
Melora moved to Charleston in 2003 from Key West and was drawn to Folly Beach for its vibrant, laid-back energy. For the past ten years, she has created a beach yoga community with donation-based beginner-friendly classes on the sand on select mornings and evenings that leans into the calming ocean sounds.
“We prioritize connection—to nature, to the present moment, and to each other—by offering outdoor sessions on the beautiful beaches of Charleston,” Morgan said. “We welcome everyone, from beginners to seasoned practitioners who wants to experience mindful movement, deep breathing, stretching and a moment of self-care in a beautiful, natural setting. I feel so connected to Folly and I appreciate the community for allowing us to share this beautiful space.”

Beach and Games To Go
Beach and Games To Go has delivered beach gear and party games, as well as baby beach gear, to Folly Beach homes for almost 12 years.
Owner Paula Reavis came up with the idea after managing multiple vacation rental companies throughout Charleston and guests inquiring about renting beach gear and party game rentals. The company has evolved to include more items at the requests of guests and has provided items for birthdays, holidays and extra gear for when guests come to town.
“Our Folly Beach locals enjoy the rental party games that maybe aren’t easy to store or have on hand. Outdoor ping pong tables and cornhole are two of the most often rented games. For beach gear, our variety of beach chairs are available for any age and our sun shades cover a group of about six people,” Reavis said.
The company drops off and picks up items so guests can focus on enjoying their time on the beach instead of having to coordinate seating and shade for everyone.
“I absolutely love the opportunities that pop up while delivering on Folly Beach: morning turtle walks, beach sweeps, watching the amazing experiences of Surfers Healing Folly, and more,” Reavis said. “The best is when my parents come to town and I bring them with me to take care of deliveries and pickups. I often have my dog Kiwi ride along.”

In-home catering by Jessica Cobb with Some Like It Hot
Jessica Cobb, a weekend bartender at Planet Follywood is beloved chef who has created many meals for customers and clients throughout her 14 years of living in Charleston and working on Folly for a decade.
Her dishes are often a staple potluck item at gatherings held at Planet Follywood—her moussaka is a standout—and her catering company, Some Like It Hot, has elevated many events and parties with customized menus. She has a number of regular Folly Beach clients who call on her for special occasions.
“I have done meal drop offs for vacation rentals and stocked houses with groceries, breakfast and appetizers on the day they arrive for their vacation so that their first few meals they don’t have to worry about,” Cobb said.
The Georgia native is a classically French trained graduate from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta and grew up cooking with family in the South.
“I love to menu plan and come up with new recipes all the time that utilize our seasonal abundance of produce, seafood, and just new and fun culinary trends,” Cobb said. “I’ve catered many weddings of close friends, and those are always so special because not only am I providing delicious food for them on such a big day, but the Folly family always shows up strong and it’s always a good time.”

Singing telegrams by John and Whitney
Local musicians John Heinsohn and Whitney Hanna Seitz have performed telegrams for every occasion including surprising Folly Beach residents for birthdays, graduations, Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, and even for the loss of loved ones and pets.
The duo can be hired to play cover songs and originals at someone’s door and can include a special message.
“We can learn almost anything anyone wants to hear for a telegram!” said Heinsohn, who regularly plays gigs on Folly Beach in the band Weigh Station Duo with Tom Leonczyk on Thursdays at Lowlife from 8-10 p.m. and will play at Rita’s on Nov. 15 from 5-8 p.m.
It was originally Whitney’s idea to do telegrams for Valentines Day in 2019. In 2020, early on in COVID lock downs, they were able to do singing telegrams at a safe social distance at front steps around Charleston.
“It was a very special opportunity to bring music and joy to people’s front doors. I shared a lot of laughter and tears with strangers and friends in those months,” Heinsohn said. “There’s literally thousands of great memories I’ve made on Folly. Some that stand out are playing the big stages at a lot of the Folly fests with Whitney, Weigh Station and other friends; surfing in rainstorms when the water is chaotic and oddly peaceful at the same time; too many Surf Bar nights to count; sunsets at the Cay; and being on the beach with my now fiancée, Kelly Gallentine.”
